A new awakening

running-is-a-meditative-exp.jpg In October 2006 after going through a difficult time with my agency, triggered by issues I was having with a customer, I became aware of how my state of mind affected the quality of my daily work and the relationships to the people I work with. I also realised that my mental state in turn was to a large degree determined by how I was feeling physically and emotionally. It became apparent to me that my physical state determined my emotional state which again determined the way I interpreted the goings-on around myself and as a result the way I communicated and acted. One of the main reasons why I left the prepared path of pursuing a corporate carreer (more…)

Carinthia Half Marathon – A great weekend with a great run

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

DSC_8741.JPG The Carinthia Half Marathon served as a test run for my preparation for the Graz Marathon on October 14, 2007. Here is a short account of our two days in Carinthia . You can find the stats of my run at the bottom of the post . DSCF0864.JPG (Clicking on the images brings you to my Flickr-gallery where you can see more shots from Klagenfurt.) A lone run is only half as rewarding as running with someone. Sharing the experience with so many fellow runners, I guess, is one of the major reasons why marathons are so popular. So, too, is taking part at such a race only really fulfilling for me if I can share the experience with someone I love. That’s why I was more than happy that Sylvia finally decided to join me to Carinthia, which made this weekend a short holiday for us – and a relaxing and entertaining one. After having Gwendoline checked by the Vet, we embarked on the 1.20 hrs journey to Klagenfurt where I collected my race number at the Half Marathon finish. Later we drove on to our “EUR 29 B&B” in Wernberg, where we opted for a short power nap. (more…)

The VCM – Heaven and hell

VCM-2007-Chris-Ring.jpg Having the Vienna City in the rear-view mirror, a very special energy is circulating my body . Although my legs are dead, sore and aching, it is an elevating feeling that is dominating my body, as if flying or as having arrived at a holy place inside. Although my body has been drained of all its energy, I do not experience the ordinary kind of fatigue. Of course, I could go to bed immediately, yet this stimulating, refreshing energy makes me want to savour it forever. (more…)

Vienna City Marathon

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Asics Racer und Skinfit Top und Short
I run a widget on my dashboard that counts down the days to an event
. I remember after I made the decision to take part at the Vienna City Marathon back in November 2006, I set the widget. Back then it said something like 120 days to the VCM, which appeared to be a long, long time . But now my first marathon lies less than 45 hours in the future .
120 days are equivalent to 4 months, in which I spend a lot of time on the track or rather the Murpromenade, runnning from Haydngasse down South beyond the highway to Feldkirchen and on my long jogs even beyond Kalsdorf and Werndorf. The unusually warm and snow-free winter provided perfect conditions for jogging and thus I feel in very good shape for Sunday. Well, I think I’d rather made sure of that.
A record of 25.273 runners are registered for the VCM, tackling the long distance in front of an expected crowd of 300.000 people. (more…)

Erzherzog Johann Lauf Strass - ClassificationsI haven’t posted for quite some time. It’s been busy in the agency while Ulla and I were working on two projects, which are currently being finished and delivered. It’s been a challenging time since one particular job was characterised by shifting currents which we found hard to anticipate and, at times, impossible to handle. (more…)
