I really appreciate any runs I can do outside Graz. For me running in Graz is what I do on a daily basis: I jump into my runners, head down the stairs and out of the building. Then I have to run for about ten minutes across the city in order to reach Augarten, a park situated at the river Mur, from where a bike track goes all the way down to the border of Slovenia
. There I get a taste of running in the nature but with the constant background noise of the city and the smell of cars it is nothing compared to runs I occasionally do in Gabersdorf or Leibnitz, approx 40 ks down south . There are many aspects that make Macs such a different experience. One is how intuitive and natural it feels to work with a Macintosh. Another is the cool and versatile third party software available for the Mac OS X operating system. Here’s a list of my favorite Mac apps: 1. Quicksilver: QS, for me, is the ultimative application launcher. It builds upon the keyboard centered Mac approach and renders the mouse almost useless. With only two keystrokes I can launch any application I want without removing my hands from the keyboard. You can also search for docs, send them to applications or email them to an address stored in address book all in one go without clicking around and searching in folders. It boosts your workflow like a rocket and makes searching so much easier – especially when you are still on Tiger where spotlight is a stubborn beast. So check it out, it’s free. 2. Journler: Journler is my digital note book, my digital moleskine. I store almost any information in there: my daily memos, text snippets, domain lists, software licences and serials and all the different access codes to my costumer’s webservers. It has a powerful search feature that makes searching and finding really fast and easy. Honestly, at first, I didn’t want to try updating my iPhone firmware from 1.1.2 to 1.1.4 . Thanks to Alex, who had done it himself, and some valuable tips, I made up my mind and updated my iPhone this morning. Finally it has arrived. After two weeks in an American post office, five days in the fingers of Austrian customs, I picked it up impatiently at the post office in Gleisdorfer Gasse. They charged me another 90 euros for vat but I had waited too long – almost four weeks – in order to complain. I had expected it anyway and it could always have been worse. What I didn’t know, though, was that I still had to go a long way before I could actually make calls with my new techno toy. After I had unpacked the phone and marvelled at its impeccable design, I realised that the American seller had not included the iTurbosim which was supposed to be used together with my Mobilkom-simcard in order to unlock it. So I had to find another solutions since I did not want to go argue with the Yanks, wait another fortnight or spend another 50 euros for a new next sim to unlock the phone. I am sure most of you know it by now: Sylvia and I are getting married in June this year. We met in January 2005 and – both being lovers of South Eastern culture – we soon made the decision to explore one of South East Asia’s countries. We chose Vietnam for our destination and embarked on a three week journey from North to South, starting in authentic Ha Noi and finishing in modern Sai Gon. We backpacked, saved money on accomodation, sleeping in adventurous ‘hotels’, encountering rats in and out of houses, got a taste of communist mentality when we tried to fly out of rainy Nah Trang, sipped cocktails in Sai Gon and slept in Graham Greene’s favourite hotel. As a whole, it was a great journey, one which we will remember forever for its unique experiences, the beauty of the country and as a first test for our relationship. After all, our time in Vietnam was proof for us that as a couple we could have a wonderful life and would be able to tackle its challenges
